Atlanta, GA, September 2nd, 2014 - Spanx® and Founder, Sara Blakely, announce the newest Leg Up® winners: Caroline Van Sickle, founder of Pretty in my Pocket (PRIMP), along with Maggie Drake and Colleen Karis, founders of Bandolier.

“Everybody needs a leg up when starting a business,” said Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx.  “Mine came when Oprah named SPANX a ‘Favorite Thing’.”

Since the “Oprah-moment” that catapulted Spanx from a small start-up to a household name, Blakely has been on a mission to pay her success forward and empower women to reach their full potential. The Leg Up program was created to offer women entrepreneurs and their businesses a chance to be promoted to millions of Spanx fans via the catalog, website and social media channels, including The Rear View blog.

Amidst a growing number of applicants, these two companies were selected for their smart solves and fashionable fixes. From a handy mobile beauty app that helps women make informed purchases to a chic cross body iPhone case that takes the place of a handbag, these businesses—and the women behind them—are improving the lives of women around the world.

About the Winners:

PRIMP is a mobile app that helps women discover and shop beauty products thanks to features like a barcode scanner, product reviews, how-to videos and direct purchase capability.

Founder Caroline Van Sickle was looking for a new job and a way to freshen up her beauty routine on a budget when she ventured down the drug store beauty aisle. Frustrated and overwhelmed by thousands of products, she headed home to research beauty blogs and how-to videos. Five hours later she had a shopping list and a startup idea.

Blakely was one of the many at Spanx who resonated with the app.

“Being a beauty product junkie, I was instantly drawn to this concept—it’s like having a personal beauty consultant on hand at all times,” Blakely said.

Bandolier offers a selection of stylish cross body iPhone cases that hold your credit card, driver’s license and cash for true liberation from carrying a handbag.

Founders Maggie and Colleen loved to travel and were constantly looking for a fashionable, functional way to carry their phone without a frantic search through their bags. With that, Bandolier was born.

“I love products that combine fashion and function. Bandolier’s stylish hands-free design is a pretty, practical solution,” said Blakely.

About Leg Up™

Spanx wants to give other amazing women entrepreneurs their leg up! As Oprah gave Sara her big break by naming Spanx ® a ‘Favorite Thing,’ Blakely is paying it forward by endorsing female entrepreneurs and their businesses.  “Everybody needs a Leg Up when starting a business,” is Blakely’s philosophy.  Through the Spanx catalog, and its social media channels, Spanx ® highlights women and her business/products.  In addition, each woman chosen receives a lucky red backpack–like the bag Sara carried as her “good luck charm” in 2000 when starting Spanx.  Spanx does not profit in any way. The only hope is that another woman gets great exposure and her much-deserved leg up!
